Perceptual bases for Architectural Design.
Buildings represent a Form of communication... ! What does this mean ? To me, it means that a building is not just an object, is much more than that. It is a creation that speaks about something, has a history behind it, solves an issue, it's functional and beautiful at the same time. It represents and expresses the thought, ideas and hard work of the people who have made it, and has definitely a role in the life of the people around it. So, buildings really do represent a form of communication, and this really changes out perspectives.
From this we understand that good architecture buildings are the ones that accommodate a number of communications and represent them in a full and elegant way. To fulfil this architects firstly use the vision, 1 of the clearest forms of perception, followed by temperature, humidity, touch, sound, texture or form. If all these come together in a building it would surely give you the thought of a total architectural form, and at the same time it wouldn't leave place for errors, like taking care for the of the right image rather than the usability of the building.
As parts of the perceptual bases for Architectural Design are the Building Type, the Architect style ( is individual, evolving and creates the firsts impressions of a building) , Environmental and Behavioral Studies ( helps to predict behavior in a space) , Building Techniques, Proximity Diagramming ( a useful analysis technique to discover a building potential) , Signs and Symbols, Figure/ ground, Similarity, Symmetry, Patterns, Vignettes ( the order of dreams ), Archetypes or Gestalts ( patterns that the human mind perceives from the environment ).
These should all be taken in consider by an architect while in process of creating, but this doesn't mean that your work should be bounded and less individual. Through our architectural creations we communicate, we use language and we use arts. This helps us define who we are and what we are really looking for.
