How designers think ?
This is a question that brings a boost to our brain and makes us reflect : Firstly, what is design ? And later on, how do we think it terms of it ? Even nowadays we still don't have a specific answer since it gets different meanings by particular groups of people. In our day to day life we may hear sayings like Design is everything ! Design is interdisciplinary ! Design is a process ! As a matter of fact they all contain a true meaning. Design is everything, it is found in different disciplines, as a high professional or everyday activity, but always regarded as a process and not only an end product.
Design has always been connected with our contemporary intellectual endeavour including art, science and philosophy. The designers of today can no longer be trained to follow a set of procedures, since the world rate changes day after day. But they are trained to always try creating something that could bring a difference, by not paying much attention only to the end product but to reflect during the entire process. This is the reason why a new field called Design education has gained momentum. It treats the history and connects it with the present, teaches how some areas of design such as engineering multimedia, electronics are changing our lives physically and socially, without mentioning architecture which is always placed in the spectrum of design.
While designing someone must decide not only what effects he wishes to achieve, but also how to achieve them. Sometimes, designing comes naturally, that's why many successful works of modern times were made by people with no relation to pure design. They all are unique, since they have been part of different design situations that adopted different approaches.
One of the essential difficulties of designing is to embrace many thoughts and knowledge. So, designers should appreciate both art and science, since design itself is a highly complex and sophisticated skill, it depends on how you see things. Designers should develop an idea, give many thoughts on it, go through a process and than seek for a positive final product. They and us both as the " judging" part should develop a better understanding of the nature of design and the characteristics of its problems, in order to later on find a solution and value what is for real Designing !
